Maritime Replicas - recognized by the most fastidious Collector of the world and some of the larges companies and banks who finance new vessels,
at the most accurate and finely detailing models yet produced, specializes in the "individual handcrafted" production of every type of vessel that sails or
has sailed - on the Seven Seas.
Founded some 25 years ago by WARREN SAMUT with the single purpose of striving to be the FINEST and BEST company of its kind on the world and
to produce not only the finest models possibles but to produce them at a price that the average collectors and/or company would find reasonable and
within a practical budget related to "quality".
Its original objective was to present models of the 20th Century “Atlantic Liners”, with a commitment to “excellence” of the highest degree possible that had never previously been presented commercially.
Actually, there were NO high quality models of the Great Liners available at that time and in fact no models of any of the liners at all, which was quite amazing, and involvement with the hobby was only available to those who could afford $12,000 to $15,000 –or even more- to be individually produced in limited numbers by a few Ship Model Craftsmen.
We are “passionate” about our dedication to producing the most accurate and most finely detailed models and we are very proud to be the Model Makers to many of the most distinguished Cruise Lines and Shipping Companies in the world today.
Whether you are the owner of a small motor launch, sailing yacht, Mega or Super Yacht –or you are a Company with Cruise ships, Merchant ships, Off-shore Oil Rig operators or owners, or Port Authorities- we can provide the most accurate and pleasing replica for either your pleasure, or for board room, lobby, office, den –or for exhibition, convention, education or the like.
Warren Samut, President and CEO of Maritime Replicas was born in Syney, Australia. Samut’s passion for the sea -with a wonderful Maltese family and seemingly salt water in his veins- came at an early age. At six years old he began building models and was always interested in the man-made marvels of the world –trains, planes and ships. A big mark in life was being taken by his father during an early age, on a Sydney Ferry visit to the wonderful “Queen Mary”, converted to the famous Troop Ship named “The Grey Ghost"
Painting by Phil Belbin, The Grey Ghost in Sydney Harbour
Subsequent to time in the Australian Royal Military College, he realized that artistic talent did not relate to the Military and decided to study Architecture. His practice flourished and he was elevated to a Fellow of the Royal Australian Institute of Architecture for the “Advancement, Protection and Elevation of Architecture”.
His “hobby” from childhood continued through his life. One day, sitting in the lounge on the Royal Viking Star, a fellow passenger, who knew his love of the sea and his success as an architect, approached him and asked if he would be interested in building him models of the ship he loved. After this his life would change forever. This fellow was Warren Titus, of Royal Viking Line, who later ordered 200 three ft long models of the Royal Viking Star, and that’s how Maritime Replicas began. A “hobby” was turned into a “Business”.
Our First Model.!
Our models are very unique in the “world of ship models” in that we produce the hulls from finely molded and highest quality F.R.P, (fiberglass)... The Superstructure is “Handcrafted” from Fine Scale BRASS “sheet” (not a solid mold!!) and we are therefore able to “acid-etch” windows, doors and portholes with tinted Plexiglas behind that provides realism and “life” to the models! Ventilation panels are also acid-etched!
Our models range in size from 6"-inch and 15"-inch lengths to 20' feet, being the largest thus far!! We chose the scale of 1:350, which provided a length around 3 feet, as most liners that were generally of an approximate length of 1,000 feet.
We do not use decals (that eventually dry out and crack) and by utilizing “one” metal medium for the structure, we avoid the age-old problem of various different materials having “differential movement” that over time and varying temperatures –suffer from “cracking”.
The most modern of 21st Century modeling techniques are used –with assistance of computer software and “laser” cutting – to assist our highly expert craftsmen.
We can also add “movement” to any model above a 1:200 scale vessel by radio control and also to an off-shore Oil Rig model as we have previously produced for education or exhibition.
On a commercial basis these Classic Liners models are produced in “groups” whereever possible on the basis of order quantity. This system of group-order allow us to produce them at a very efficient cost -which at the same time allows us to offer them to you for 1/5 of the price that a Master Modeler would have to charge for a similar model- and, therefore, make reproductions available to thousands of collectors, and Shipping Companies who would otherwise go without.
Because we were approached on innumerable occasions by many people who had enjoyed a cruise on one of the magnificent ships of today – and wanted a small, reasonable price replica of the ship – as a souvenir- we commenced our very finely detailed, accurate and very unique GIFT MODEL series, produced from a combination of highest quality resin and acid-etched BRASS at a very acceptable price –these then developing into similar size-/scale PROMOTIONAL MODELS for both Cruise Lines AND many varied companies – for which we are most grateful, and continue such development.
Our models are Duty Free, in accordance with the "International Tariff Code" -- as they are "handcrafted" and there for, classified as "work of art".
We wish to point out that this Website indicates various examples of models that have been entrusted to us to build, although we do not have inventory of most of what you will see -- except many of the "LINERS OF LEGEND". Virtually all being magnificent, luxurious, elegant and a pleasure to the eye.
We make up fot not keeping inventory by being able to produce virtually any model (not 20'feet) in the vicinity of four months, and all vessels can be reproduced to any size or scale.
Packing for “shipment” of our models to our Clients is a very important aspect of our Company research, as we do not wish to spend three months of intense fine work –building a beautiful model- only to have it in a thousand pieces in two seconds due to mishandling in transit. The models are packed professionally -crated where necessary- and shipped via a professional international mover, airfreight, courier service or sea freight. We employ the latest packing techniques and monitoring devices in order to ensure as far as possible the arrival of your much awaited model in perfect condition.
All shipping charges and insurance are additional and to be prepaid by the Client prior to shipping –but Maritime Replicas will assist in every way possible.

Maritime Replicas made its initial work with a replica of the much loved “R.M.S. QUEEN MARY”, which we produced in “groups” enabling us to offer a price of less than $3,000 –individually “handcrafted” from molded hull of “FRP”(fiberglass) with a superstructure of fine scale BRASS sheet that could b acid etched, together with brass moldings, and turned brass.

Great experience was gained from Mr. Gavin Fry –the then Curator of the “Australian National Maritime Museum” in Sydney, Australia- that commissioned us to produce many models for the new Museum. Gavin would only be satisfied by the International Maritime Museum “STANDARDS” -far above the much generalized and meaningless word we seen so often –“Museum Quality”!
Unfortunately we have witnessed in some of the world’s premier Maritime Museums very pitiful models that do no justice to the particular model nor the museum itself.
Subsequently, to the very pleasing reaction of the world’s collectors of the classic ships, we were at the initial stages of the present day popular Cruise Ship world and entered the field of Cruise Ship models with the confidence of Executive Vice President Ron Santangelo of Cunard ordering models of the much loved “R.M.S. Queen Elizabeth 2” (QE2) –and then the very popular and highly respected Warren Titus, Chairman of the Royal Viking Line for models for a special function that was the first of its kind.
Captain John Cox was responsible for us producing models of the delightful Royal Caribbean Line Ships –Song of Norway- these three ships being the virtual beginning of cruising as we know it today.

We have been involved in many exciting projects, with one of them being the commission to build THE “reference” model of TITANIC to the scale of 1:48 and therefore being some 18 feet long. This model had wide recognition from many sources –one being Bruce Beveridge of the knowledgeable and respected. TITANIC RESEARCH & MODELING ASSOCIATION.

And then we were very much honored to be featured in a beautiful book on the TITANIC that was produced by the number one “MARINERS MUSEUM” at New Norfolk.
And at the time of the famous TITANIC film, we were also honored by Jame Cameron - who purchased Warren samut's "as build" drawinds of the ship - and included them in a special DVD.

Our journey -in the last few years in this wonderful world of ship-modeling- also brought us many varied projects, one being from Paramount Studios, to produce a limited edition (in brass) of the STAR TREK ship -1701 ENTERPRISE “D”, which we started marketing just as Paramount was taken over by VIACOM –and our project was cancelled!!

We have much pleasure in seeing this recognition by such a highly reputable company.
However, we are very pleased with the number of large Cruise Line Companies, Cargo Companies,, the U.S. Government with the U.S. Coast Guard and the OFF-SHORE OIL industry, Mega and Super Yacht owners, who have contracted with us over the years and continue to do so, with confidence in our integrity and our continuous highest possible level of accuracy, detail and finish in our models.
The OFF-SHORE OIL INDUSTRY is of exceedingly high interest to us, and we have studied and modeled to the finest degree possible, the Jack Up, Semi-Submersible Ship Rig, F.P.S.O. Work Boats and Heavy Lift Ships.
Our web page provides a good description of our knowledge, production methods and details

"Global Santa Fe"
“Global Santa-Fe” gave us our first breath in this important and challenging field of industry- and since then we have produced many replicas from BRASS components for detail, accuracy, strength and longevity.

Some years ago, Mr. Micky Arison personally commissioned us to build 1,000 models -4 feet in length to scale of 1:250 –of the then new “FANTASY”, which were displayed in major Travel Agents nationwide.

Subsequently we were appointed as the exclusive producers of 1:350 scale (one meter long) models of the very large Atlantic Liner – R.M.S. QUEEN MARY 2 (QM2) – and then the QUEEN VICTORIA.followed by the new QUEEN ELIZABETH.
We are always grateful for this trust and confidence in us by Mr. Arison.

MERCHANT SHIPS have become very important in our constant efforts to cater for all facets of the Shipping world and several selected examples from the last century are now included on a special new Web-Page.
“S.S. President Harrison” has recently been added to our growing list of ships that we can produce, with more coming as the popularity grows,
“As you know, I spent five months on this ship in 1968 sailing around the world as a Deck Cadet in the US Merchant Marine Academy. Because the ship no longer exists in its original form, you had to create a plan almost from scratch using a copy of the general arrangement plan and some old photos. I know at times it was very frustrating dealing with a client who knew the details of the vessel which you were modeling, but the result is just spectacular. The level of detail for a model of this scale is something I have never seen before. This is truly a “Museu Quality” model.”
Happy Client with our Model of S.S. President Harrison
We specialize in the production of models of ships for companies that require models for pre-advertising and marketing. We visit the shipyard in these cases, photograph the ship in detail and more importantly, obtain the “feel” of the ship, which results in our ability to provide a much better replica. Many Shipyards have been visited during our model production and our photographs “pay off”.
We never refuse a “challenge”, and when two brothers approached us for an extremely accurate and finely detailed replica of the great EMMA MAERSK, there were no plans available. With many photographs provided by the clients –and only aware of length, beam and draft- we prepared a very accurate set of General Arrangement drawings- for which we built our four foot long model
Our WARSHIP series includes all nine of the U.S. Aircraft Carriers that have been deployed to the Middle East / Straight of Hormuz area, and have the finest possible detail and models of the latest aircraft that have replaced previous aircraft.
The Naval Section is divided into two parts now –with replicas of the present day and recent vessels –detailed to the finest accuracy possible- and more realistic, with “touches” of weathering!
A new section allied with historical U.S. warships is providing offers to Veterans or Veterans Groups with a gradual inclusion of vessels of WWII, of the Korean & Vietnam periods –with the ‘BIG 4”, U.S.S. New Jersey, U.S.S. Missouri, U.S.S. Ohio, and U.S.S. Wisconsin, either in Naval Grey, or in camouflage!.

Gaylord Hotels contacted us when building the Washington D.C. Hotel premises, and commissioned us to research and build three very large (20 feet long) fully rigged, with sails, three “Ships of the Line” to be featured in its lobby.
It was a great challenge but very successful –and from this we decided to add to our productions a series of special tall ships for the connoisseurs
Hard at Work.!
This led to a fascination with the unique, a very different vessel of the Orient –the Chinese Junks. These are generally for the connoisseur also –but we produce several small and delightful vessels for reasonable budget

And so Maritime Replicas developed, in a fascinating and exciting way over the years –and is presently “Re-organized, subsequent to major projects with Princess Cruise & M.S.C".
We now feel that we have played an important part in the promotion of excellence in the “World of Ship Models and Shipping”
We hope that you enjoy our Site and we look forward to welcoming you as a very valued Client.
